JACKSONVILLE—In the semifinal game with No.3 Woodland, the Lady Lions got 24 points and 16 rebounds from Taylor Adams and 21 points from Devan Wilbanks on their way to a 77-72 win.
The Lady Bobcat’s Courtney Strain, the state’s all-time leading scorer, finished her career with 38 points.
As the lead see-sawed in the first quarter, Section (20-7) went ahead for good with 3:20 left to play in the period on an Adams jumper, putting the Lady Lions on top 14-13.
Section led by five, 22-17 at the end of the first period.
The two teams played even in the second frame, swapping baskets. Section carried a 39-34 lead in to the locker room at the half.
By the end of the third Section had built up a 12 point lead and led 60-48. Foul trouble kept Woodland (31-2) from its usual aggressive play in the quarter.
With 4:31 remaining in the game, the Lady Bobcats made a charge at the lead.
Freshman Hannah Presley and Erin Massey provided Section with enough offensive power for the Lady Lions to put the game away and advance to the finals Thursday.
Section out-rebounded Woodland 35-30, but turned the ball over 19 times compared to the Lady Bobcats 9.
Presley and Massey finished the game with 12 points apiece for Section. Presley also grabbed six rebounds.
Section will now face North Sand Mountain in the regional finals.
