Tournament of Champions

Plainview finished the Tournament of Champions tourney in a tie for first place with the No.1-ranked team in Class 3A, Madison Academy. Both team closed the tournament 4-0, due to the tie-breaker rule, Madison Academy emerged as the first place team.

The Lady Bears (6-3) made a strong showing during the tourney and established themselves as a front-runner in county. In first and second-round action the Lady Bears picked up wins over Collinsville (46-28) and Geraldine (59-52) on Wednesday. On Saturday Plainview knocked off Douglas and Pisgah.

In Plainview's win over Douglas, Caitlin Robertson was the top pointer-getter for the Lady Bears, scoring 16. Anna Busby was right behind her with 15 points, seven assists and four thefts. Alex Poole closed with 11 points, knocking down three 3-pointers.

Facing Pisgah, Robertson and Busby once again provided the Lady Bears with the 1-2 punch. Robertson tossed in 20 points and Busby added 19. Busby also collected six rebounds in Plainview's win.

Shelby Holley and Ella Denes led Pisgah in scoring with 14 apiece.

• North Sand Mountain

The Class 2A, No.4-ranked Lady Bison led the No.1-ranked prep team in Class 3A, Madison Academy by a slim 46-44 at the half only to watch the lead evaporate in the second half and suffer an 83-72 setback. NSM finished the tournament 3-1. NSM led 21-16 at the end of the first quarter and by the end of the third, they were trailing 63-51.

Lauren Cummins led all scorers with 26 points. Cummins also grabbed eight boards and dished out four assists. Chelsea Ellison finished with 16 points and handed off three assists. Chelsea Siniard scored 10 points and Whitney Claridy had eight rebounds. Madison Academy placed five players in double-digits.

"I was very pleased with the girl's performance in the four games of the tournament. We played well most of the time. We still have several areas we need to improve on. I thought we gave Madison Academy a great game in the finals. We came out in the third quarter and could not buy a basket and that hurt us. Madison Academy has a great ball team and I was proud of the effort our girls put forth," NSM head coach Michael Wilborn said. "The Lord has really blessed us this season and I hope we continue to work and improve everyday."

NSM 60, Geraldine 47

Against Geraldine, Cummins scored 16 points, snatched 10 rebounds and handed out three assists for NSM. Chelsea Ellison chipped in 16.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Caitlyn Roe with 14, Kristen White scored 10 and Alanna Smith had nine.

NSM 59, Anniston 42

Chelsea Ellison score 18 points for the Lady Bison. Haley Cloud and Emily Camp had 10 each and Cummins scored eight.

NSM 82, Douglas 45

Chelsea Ellison dropped in 29 points for NSM. Cummins recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Siniard and Lacy Huckabee had 10 points apiece.

• Pisgah

The Lady Eagles finished the tourney 1-3, dropping their final game to Plainview 63-56. Pisgah trailed the Lady Bears 19-12 at the first break 33-27 at the half before pulling ahead 47-42 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Shelby Holley and Ella Denes each scored 14 points for Pisgah. Dallas Gilley claimed 12 points and 14 boards for the Lady Eagles.

Madison Academy 63, Pisgah 35

Pisgah proved to be no match for the Lady Mustangs, ranked No.1 in Class 3A. Madison Academy led at all the stops. Holley led Pisgah with eight points, followed by Gilley and Shainah Peek with six each.

Pisgah 57, Anniston 38

The Lady Eagles made an impressive showing in their match-up with last season's Class 4A state runner-up. Pisgah fell behind 27-22 at the half before outscoring Anniston 25-11 in the second half. Denes hot hand accounted for 26 points for Pisgah, Gilley scored nine and Holley and Jordan Guffey each got six.

Fyffe 75, Pisgah 64

After beating Fyffe earlier this season, the Lady Eagles could not overcome a scoring drought in the second quarter. Denes scored 12 points, Lauren Millican chipped in 10 and Gilley added eight for Pisgah.

•Fyffe

Fyffe finished the tournament 3-1, their only setback came at the hands of Douglas in each teams tournament finale.

Douglas 77, Fyffe 74

In the Lady Red Devil's overtime loss to Douglas, Whitney Brown score 26 points, knocking down three 3-pointers all the way. Haley Mauldin followed with 20.

Fyffe 49, Anniston 45

Mauldin hit six free throws in the closing minute of the game to help propel the Lady Red Devils over last years Class 4A state runner-up. Brown score 17 points for Fyffe and Gipson closed with 14.

Fyffe defeated Pisgah 75-64 and Collinsville 61-49 on Wednesday.
