Sand Mountain Tournament begins

In the 56th Sand Mountain Tournament, No. 9-seeded Crossville enjoyed a 9-5 first quarter lead, but that lead was short-lived.

After what NSM coach Michael Wilborn called a "sluggish offensive display" in the first quarter, the Lady Bison got back on track and took a 31-15 lead into the locker room.

Chelsea Siniard came into the game in the second quarter and canned four straight 3-pointers to break the game open for NSM. Siniard finished with 14 points.

Lacy Huckabee led all scorers with 17 points. Huckabee also grabbed 10 rebounds, handed off six assists and had four steals.

Keely Ellison closed with 11 points and Lauren Cummins added 10 for the Lady Bison.

For Crossville, Emily Peek and Darby Williamson finished with nine points apiece.



Geraldine 59, Plainview 49

No. 6-seeded Geraldine got a 30 points performance from Kristen White as the Lady Bulldogs rolled past the Class 4A, No. 7-ranked Plainview Lady Bears in the quarterfinals of the Sand Mountain Tournament.

Geraldine (11-4) led 13-10 after the first quarter, 27-24 at the half and 43-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Raney Body closed with eight points for Geraldine, followed by Caitlyn Roe with seven. Paten Chavis and Alanna Smith chipped in six apiece.

No. 3-seeded Plainview (9-7) was led by Caitlin Robertson with 12 points and seven rebounds. Anna Busby had 11 points and handed off five assists. Alex Poole also finished with 11 points.

Crossville 59, Sylvania 55

In the opening round of the Sand Mountain Tournament, the Lady Lions (8-7) pulled out a narrow victory over Sylvania.

No. 9-seeded Crossville had three players to reach double-digits. Molly Williamson led the way with 16 points and dished out four assists. Keelie Wilkes scored 15 points and Emily Peek scored 10 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked six shots.

No. 8-seeded Sylvania (8-8) struggled from the field, shooting only 29 percent from the field.

Taylor Frazier poured in 25 points to lead all scorers. Frazier also grabbed seven boards. Hannah Haynes had eight points and claimed 16 rebounds.

BOYS

Fyffe 57, Geraldine 52

No. 3-seeded Fyffe Fought off a fourth quarter rally attempt by the Bulldogs to advance to the semi-finals of the Sand Mountain tournament.

No. 6-seeded Geraldine (5-8) trailed 45-28 at the opening of the fourth quarter.

Taylor Thrash had a game-high 17 points, followed by Jesse Martin with 13 points and Jesse Townsel with nine for Fyffe (11-2).

Tyler Malone canned four 3-pointers in the final quarter and finished with 15 points for the Bulldogs. Matthew Cole netted 10 points, Wade Williams added eight and Ryan Treadaway tallied seven.
