Northeast Alabama Community College has now become one the area’s top job training centers.
The school dedicated a new $1 million Industrial Center will develop the area’s workforce and industrial jobs.
Welding, industrial maintenance, and machining technologies will be offered through the center.
State Rep. Todd Greeson feels the center will be a tremendous asset.
“A lot of people who have lost jobs will be able to re-train and be better equipped for the market,’ he said.
The 15,000 square foot facility will be able to accommodate many students and technologically advanced equipment.
“Having a well-trained workforce is essential,” said Dus Rogers, president of the Jackson County Economic Development Authority.
Rogers spoke at the dedication along with DeKalb County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Jimmy Durham.
The two spoke in place of Dr. Freida Hill, chancellor of the Alabama Community College System, and Matthew Hughes, director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. The two were unable to make the event due to inclement weather.
The consensus is that having this training facility will entice industrial jobs to the area by offering a trained and educated workforce.
There are currently 65 students enrolled in the center, which opened in January, and many more are expected.
The center is located off of Hwy. 35 past the NACC campus.
Plans are in the works to build a road connecting the center with the campus.
