Final Battle

Published February 18, 2010

JACKSONVILLE -- Section and North Sand Mountain’s girls basketball teams are no stranger to each other.

Not only did the two teams meet twice in regular seson match ups, but they also met twice in tournament final games.

Section won the Jackson County tournament final.

North Sand Mountain came out victorious in the area tounrament.

The teams are 2-2 against each other this season.

North Sand Mountain hopes to buck the trend of the two schools alternating wins in the series today at 4:30 when the two meet one more time for the right to be called regional champions.

The Lady Bison won the last meeting between the two.

With everything on the line, both teams are sure to bring their best performances to the table.

Section will have to work without LeAnn Hanback, who was lost for the season in the county championship contest,

Hanback was a pivotal part of the Lions’ team, but Section has rallied around the other seniors and been able to pull out big wins against Geraldine and Woodland in their last two contests.

North Sand Mountain will be relying on their outside shooting and defensive pressure, as it has all season long.

Chelsea Ellison is the Bison’s top shooter and hit 8-of-22 from long range in the Bison’s win over Ohatchee in the regional semi-finals.

The pressure defensively is one of the main strengths of this team of many strengths. The Bison forced 32 turnovers in the semi-finals and have been doing that all season long.

With big-time players, both schools have equally as much of a chance to reach the Final 48 at the BJCC.

Birmimgham is the ultimate dream for every high school basketball player.

And for that dream to be realized, there is only one more game to win.

The real winner on Thursday, however, will be the fans in the stands who get to see two great girls basketball teams battle it out for the right to live a dream.
